George Bruseker, PhD

George Bruseker is a Research Affiliate at Swiss Art Research Infrastructure (ORDEA project) and Co-founder and CEO of Takin.solutions Ltd. In 2019, he held a joint Research Fellowship at the Digital Society Initiative (DSI) and Swiss Art Research Infrastructure (SARI).

He is senior researcher in the domain of semantic data and formal ontology and deeply committed to facilitating scholars' control over their data expression and organization. Serving as the co-CEO of Takin.solutions, George spearheads the delivery of comprehensive services encompassing Semantic Data Project Management, Ontological Modelling, Conceptual Modelling, ETL Processes, and Semantic Data Platform Design and Implementation. His endeavors in the field also include active contributions to international committees, fostering the establishment of digital standards and facilitating knowledge sharing and integration within scholarly communities.

With a diverse career spanning various roles supporting information technology for cultural heritage and humanities research across several continents, George has amassed a wealth of experience and expertise. His tenure in these positions, including holding a Marie Curie Senior Researcher position in formal ontology (2015), coupled with his academic background in philosophy (PhD, University of Athens, 2011; MA, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, 2003) and history (BA, University of Alberta, 2000) grounds and drives his commitment to advance the foundations of semantic data and driving innovation in the fields of cultural heritage and humanities. His research interests include the expansion of cultural heritage semantics for humanity’s applications, the teaching and learning of formal ontology and semantic data, the documentation and application of semantic data patterns, and the management of the semantic data lifecycle. George's unwavering commitment to excellence, coupled with his passion for semantic data management and ontology engineering, continues to position him as a key figure in shaping the landscape of digital knowledge dissemination and preservation.
