Repositories for Research Data

Discipline-specific repositories for data in the humanities and social sciences:

DaSCH (Swiss National Data and Service Center for the Humanities): It supports researchers in creating, managing, preserving, and sharing digital research data in sustainable, long-term ways. DaSCH operates a national infrastructure that ensures Humanities data remain FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), providing tools, guidance, and hosting services for Digital Humanities projects across Switzerland.

SWISSUbase: The Swiss national platform for archiving, managing, and sharing research data in the Social Sciences, Linguistics and related disciplines. It provides secure long-term storage and supports researchers in depositing, documenting, and disseminating their datasets according to international standards.

arthistoricum.net@heiDATA: With heiDATA, the Heidelberg University Library offers art historians worldwide a platform to preserve and share their research data, such as images, tables, and audio files. Each dataset receives a citable DOI.

Swiss Art Research Infrastructure (SARI): National research infrastructure that provides platforms and tools for unified, ORD-compliant access to collection and research data. The focus is on data from Art History, Cultural Heritage, and related disciplines. Navigable knowledge graphs as well as the use of machine learning applications enable the exploration of research data within broader scholarly contexts. (See, among others, the projects BSO, JILA, and ORDEA.)

General purpose repositories

Zenodo: An open, multidisciplinary research data repository. It allows researchers from any field to deposit, share, and preserve a wide range of research outputs, including datasets, publications, software and code, presentations, and other research materials.

Open Science Framework (OSF): A free, open-source platform designed to support the entire research lifecycle – from planning studies and managing data to sharing results and publishing materials.

figshare: An online research data repository that allows researchers to store, share, publish, and showcase a wide range of research outputs.

DRYAD: A curated, open-access research data repository designed for publishing and preserving datasets underlying scientific and medical publications. It focuses specifically on research data rather than general research outputs.
