Collecting and Organising Research Data

ZB-detektIIIF: Developed by the ZB lab (Zentralbibliothek Zurich), this browser plugin helps detect IIIF resources and collect them across different collections and databases.

Tropy: This software helps you organize research materials such as digital images and documents. You can create folder structures, lists, and tags, and enrich each item with metadata and descriptions using custom templates or standardized schemas such as Dublin Core. An integrated annotation tool supports transcriptions and the selection of image details. Various import (IIIF manifests, CSV) and export options (CSV, Omeka S, JSON-LD) are available.

Transkribus: Transkribus is a platform for the analysis of digitised documents. It offers tools for the automatic recognition of handwritten and printed text, provides an environment for manual correction and editing, and supports collaborative work on shared collections. Users can also train custom AI models to improve recognition accuracy for specific scripts, languages, or document types.

Zotero: An open-source tool for organizing and citing research materials.

Recogito: Online platform for collaborative document and image annotation. Export of data in many different formats (CSV, RDF, GeoJSON, and TEI) is possible.

OpenRefine: A free and open-source tool that enables users to explore, clean, and transform their datasets. It also supports data enrichment from external sources.

PicArrange: Developed by Visual Computing, a collaboration of various researchers at HTW Berlin, PicArrange is a free software that simplifies finding images on your computer. Unlike Finder, it sorts images by content and color, allowing you to quickly browse and search large collections visually. It is currently only available for macOS.
