Bilder der Schweiz online (BSO)TESTGROUND

  • Salvador Dalí's The Persistence of Memory (1931).

The “Bilder der Schweiz online / Images of Switzerland” initiative is a three-year project at the University of Zurich (2020-2022), jointly undertaken by Swiss Art Research Infrastructure (SARI) and the lecturer for Swiss Art and Museology at the Institute of Art History at the University of Zurich. It is funded by the Fehlmann Family Foundation. BSO on SARI ( is the initiative’s semantic research portal. It gives access to a network of digital images and contextual information around depictions of Switzerland. Those depictions were created between ca. 1700 and 1950 and include prints, drawings, postcards and photos. Provenience of the current collection of digital images is the Zurich Central Library, the Swiss National Library and the Fehlmann Family Foundation. SARI is interested in understanding patterns about from where artists drew their sketches. Learning about the production process of drawings and prints allows insight not only in a changing Switzerland, but also changing artistic practices over time. Additionally, the project is interested in local knowledge and encourages the documentation of such knowledge.
