Prof. Dr. Tristan Weddigen (President)

Prof. Dr. Tristan Weddigen is President of the Executive Board of the Swiss Art Research Infrastructure (SARI) at the University of Zurich, Full Professor for Early Modern Art History at the Institute of Art History, University of Zurich, and Director at the Bibliotheca Hertziana - Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome.

Tristan Weddigen studied Art History and Philosophy at the Universities of Heidelberg, Cambridge und La Sapienza Rom and earned his PhD 2002 at the Technical University in Berlin. 2008 he obtained his habilitation at the University in Bern on the Dresden State Art Collections in the 18th century. In the same year, he began as an assistant professor at the University of Lausanne and became full professor in 2009 for Early Modern Art History at the University of Zurich, where he is director of the SNF- and ERC-projects TEXTILE. His research focuses on the global aspects of Italian art from the early modern period to today, on questions of materiality and mediality, studies the history of art history and engages in digital art history. His publications include the monograph Raffaels Papageienzimmer (2006) and the edited volumes Barocke Inszenierung (1999), Federico Zuccaro (2000), Metatexile (2010), Unfolding the Textile Medium (2011), Benedetto Varchi: Paragone (2013), and Heinrich Wölfflin: Principles of Art History (2015).
