Senior Reference Data Editor (Scientific Assistant 60–100%)

The Swiss Art Research Infrastructure (SARI) provides unified and mutual access to scholarly research resources in art history and related fields, including research data, digitised visual resources, and collection data from specialised research institutions, archives, collections, and museums across Switzerland. As part of the Swiss Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of National Relevance, SARIs mission is to combine the unique scholarly expertise from specialised research institutions nation-wide by providing access to a state-of-the-art research environment for teaching and research in the digital humanities. 

For the expansion of our fast growing team we are seeking to recruit one or more

Senior Reference Data Editors (Scientific Assistant 60–100%)

to commence immediately or by agreement. The incumbent will be instrumental for the curation, translation, alignment, and publication of SARI’s general reference data, the curation and alignment of project specific data (such as the »Bilder der Schweiz Online« project), as well as for SARI’s translation initiative of the Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus®. The position involves the

  • Editorial curation of multilingual, scholarly reference data for historic places, persons, groups, art works, built work and more, relevant for art history and related fields
  • Digital curation, enrichment and harmonisation of cultural heritage data using semantic tools
  • Supervision and coordination of a small team of reference data curators 
  • Supervision and coordination of editorial processes with external partners
  • Collaboration with the data engineer’s team
  • Creation and maintenance of editorial guidelines and project documentations 
  • Support of researchers and cataloguers on editorial guidelines and best practices
  • Co-supervision of the Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus® (AAT) translation initiative (editorial work, support of translators and partner institutions, quality checks, etc)
  • Alignment, translation, and curation of project specific vocabularies for scholarly terms

The ideal candidate should have a master’s degree in the humanities (art history, history, alike) or/and information science (library science). Genuine understanding of historical research questions and methodologies, a profound and broad knowledge in art history, as well as a strong affinity to digital humanities and cultural heritage data are mandatory. A proven track record in the editorial curation, management, and publication of scholarly reference data and a genuine knowledge of disciplinary authority files are essential. Prior experience in and advanced knowledge of current methodologies in the digital humanities and social sciences are considered a plus. The position requires precise operation as well as proficient knowledge of German and at least one other national language and English. Generous conditions of the University of Zurich apply. The contract will be limited to one year, with option for extension (overall project duration of three years).
